PERFORMANCES
The Next Generation Initiative partners with mission-aligned US-based educational institutions and organizations to select works by young, Black American composers for performance by AMP.
2025 Season:
NGI partnered with Bloomingdale School of Music’s A4TY program to select alum Zuri Bridges’ piece “A Stroll in the Park” for performance by Chelsea Randall at BSM in Jan.
NGI partnered with Luna Composition Lab to select works by two LCL alums for performance. Jordan Millar’s “Evergreen” and Ebun Oguntola’s “Quarantina” will be premiered by Chelsea Randall as part of two lecture/recitals in Feb. at Newark School of the Arts, NJ and in March at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, NY.
NGI partnered with Wildflower Composers to select works by three WC alums for performance. Mena Williams’ “Modern Prelude & Minuet” (*world premiere), KiMani Bridges' "Pith" (*world premiere) and Chloe Clark Smith’s “The Forest,” will be performed by Chelsea Randall as part of two lecture/recitals in Feb. at Newark School of the Arts, NJ and in March at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, NY.
COMMISSIONS
The Next Generation Commissioning Prize awards one Black American composer under 25 $500 to write a 4-6 minute solo piano piece, which is premiered and recorded by AMP during the upcoming season. The inaugural Commissioning Prize will launch in spring, '25.
CALL FOR SCORES
Winners have their previously composed pieces performed and recorded by AMP during the upcoming season.
